BGT Jobs & Training (Ballarat) is proud to deliver Learn Local pre-accredited programs across Ballarat and the Central Highlands. These short, flexible courses are designed to build confidence, skills, and pathways into employment, further study, or volunteering opportunities.


Our Learn Local programs are practical, supportive, and focused on helping adult learners take the next step in their journey.


We currently offer:

Employable Me

Employable Me is the first of two courses designed to assist adult learners in exploring future pathways.  This module helps learners identify their strengths, interests, skills, and life stage opportunities and limitations. By the end, participants gain a clearer sense of themselves, what they have to offer as employees, and the areas of work they’d like to pursue.


Topics include:


  • Identifying personal strengths and transferrable skills and relating them to career pathways
  • Initial preparation for job interviews
  • Understanding the benefits of volunteering in building networks
  • Developing a personal action plan


Program length: 30 hours

Job Readiness: Level 2

This pre-accredited module builds the skills and knowledge needed for resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation. Learners also develop the confidence to commence and maintain employment.


Language, literacy, numeracy, and digital (LLNED) skills are embedded throughout, with learners assembling a portfolio to demonstrate their progress.

  • Starting and Keeping Work


Program length: 80 hours

Introduction to Microsoft Outlook & Email: Level 2

This digital literacy course helps learners build confidence with workplace communication tools, particularly Microsoft Outlook. It develops awareness of self as a digital user and strengthens digital skills for employment.


Topics include:



  • Email basics
  • Email as a communication tool
  • Using Microsoft Outlook
  • Accessing email on smart devices
  • Recognising and avoiding email scams


Program length: 20 hours

Be Work Ready: Level 2

This flexible module introduces the key skills needed for finding and applying for jobs. It can be delivered in-person, online, or blended, and is suitable either as a stand-alone course or embedded within accredited training.


The module:


  • Helps learners build knowledge and confidence in job applications
  • Provides generic, adaptable job-seeking strategies
  • Supports delivery in group or individual formats


Program length: 20 hours

Digital Literacy for Adults

This program builds confidence in using computers and software for personal and work purposes. It introduces essential applications while embedding literacy and numeracy practice through practical activities.


Topics include:


  • Microsoft Word (tables, templates)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (pictures, videos)
  • Microsoft Excel (formulas, macros)
  • Sending & receiving emails (attachments)
  • File Explorer (creating/managing folders)
  • Keyboard skills (functions of special keys)
  • Internet research (Google, Maps)
  • Staying safe online (scams, data protection)

Office Skills

This module extends proficiency in modern office skills and employability. Learners practice using common software and engage with real-world tasks, including an interactive Q&A with an experienced administration professional.


Topics include:


  • Comparing modern and traditional office environments
  • Touch typing basics
  • Using calendars and reminders to prioritise work
  • Typing and editing documents in MS Word
  • Creating presentations and professional emails
  • Preparing simple invoices
  • Participating in a simulated meeting

Online Applications: Level 2

This program develops digital skills for job seekers, focusing on online application processes and innovative tools like video resumes. Learners gain the confidence to apply for roles digitally and present themselves effectively to employers.


Topics include:


  • Navigating online job application processes
  • Using keywords to stand out
  • File sharing and uploading documents
  • Creating video resumes
  • Exploring video resume apps


Program length: 10 hours
