Community Services
specialist support
We aim to assist people who have left school, to continue with their education, training and/or employment.
All people have the capacity to make a vital contribution to the social and economic life of society. To succeed they must have access to opportunities, and networks that facilitate their participation. BGT Jobs & Training Ballarat is committed to supporting people to reach their life, learning and employment aspirations. We work with people from all backgrounds, assisting them to make positive life choices in whichever pathway they choose to follow.
Better Futures
BGT deliver Better Futures across the Central Highlands and Wimmera areas. Better Futures provides flexible and tailored support as you transition from out of home care to independence. To be eligible for Better Futures support, you must be in kinship care, foster care, residential care on, or after your 16th birthday and on one of the following orders Care by Secretary Order, Long-Term Care Order, Family Reunification Order. All young people on permanent care orders are eligible. A Better Futures worker meets with you and your case managers when you are about to turn 16 years, and is available to help you transition from care services, when your Child Protection Order finishes, up until 21 years of age.
Home Stretch
Home Stretch (part of the Better Futures program) provides young people in care with a more gradual and supported transition to adulthood. This means you can get the support you need up to the age of 21 with assistance from a Better Futures worker. Through Home Stretch you can stay with your kinship, foster, or permanent carer until you turn 21 years of age – your carer would need to agree. Your carer is entitiled to receive an allowance to help support you. If you are moving from care to independent living, you may receive an allowance to help you with housing costs such as rent and bills. This payment will go to an agency who will work with you to support your living arrangements.
ReConnect
BGT Jobs & Training Ballarat deliver ReConnect over the Ballarat, Golden Plains and Moorabool local government areas. The ReConnect program assists participants to overcome barriers preventing them from engaging in education, training and employment and provides support into further study or employment pathways.
