Industry Skills Centre
At BGT we‘ve been thoroughly preparing people for the manufacturing and engineering industries by teaching key skills in metalwork, engineering, fabrication and welding.
Our new Industry Skills Centre has been specifically designed to provide quality one-on-one tuition. Participants not only learn the hands on skills of engineering such as fabrication, cutting and welding, but are also educated in engineering disciplines like Drawing Interpretation, Geometric Development and Quality Systems and Procedures. This new facility enables our trainers to provide first class training to Apprentices, providing a realistic workplace environment. Thanks to this broad education detail, our Industry Skills Centre facility, and the genuine industry experience of our instructors, BGT delivers better prepared, more broadly skilled and competent graduates. |

Preparing people for industry
BGT’s Industry Skill Centre (ISC) has been in operation since 23 March 2005. In this time the ISC has facilitated the training and placement of students, both male and female, into employment and Apprenticeships in the metal industry across Ballarat and the surrounding areas. Our training program is designed around the Certificate II in Engineering and incorporates welding, thermal cutting, fabrication and basic fitting and turning skills.
The ISC has strong links with industry. These relationships enable our experienced instructors to impart current industry best practice techniques to our students. This develops student’s confidence in their skill level when they are applying for an Apprenticeship or industry related position.
Over the years, we have consistently provided training that maximises the opportunity for our participants to fain apprenticeships in the engineering field.

“As a successful participant of this program, I can confirm that pursuing this opportunity has proved to be one of the best decisions I have made to date. My hope is that in return for being offered a place in this outstanding program, I will be able to share my unique skillset and contribute towards a diverse workplace community”. – Olivia - Intensive Welding Course and Certificate II in Engineering |
A message from Bill
The training we deliver in the ISC is relevant to industry and is of a standard that exceeds our employers expectations, the training plans are formulated in partnership with our employers and reflect the needs of the individual work places. On the apprentice side, we continually challenge them to push themselves harder and not to settle for just 'OK'. We encourage them to ask questions and through practice achieve a standard that is far higher than what they thought possible of themselves. In doing so they build confidence and we embed the requirement to excel at trade school. All students over the 3 years of their apprenticeship become part of the ISC family. We are very lucky to have the trainers we have to work with the apprentices every week, the passion they have for the engineering trade, and their desire to pass on their experience and knowledge becomes infectious. This passion ignites a flame in our apprentices to become the best tradesperson they can possibly be. |
