BGT Field Officers are a vital link in assuring quality outcomes for candidates undertaking apprenticeships and traineeships. Field Officers are required to monitor the performance of the apprentice or trainee, provide pastoral care, intervene in disputes and rotate BGT apprentices or trainees when necessary.
The field officers are able to assist young people with their career choice having the potential to maximise completion of training contracts. BGT field officers are particulary effective in assisting with school to work transition for young people.
BGT field officers are actively educating the community, whether that is employers, employees, parents or schools on their responsibilties and rights in respect of employment and training. Our field officers can disuss with you the option of full or part time apprenticeships or traineeships, VET in schools programs, school based apprenticeships, career advise, aptitude assessment and school career information sessions.
Bill Burgess - Operations Manager Trade Industries
Bill began his working career as an Apprentice Body Maker and has 24 years experience working within local industry. Bill has predominately managed staff across the Manufacturing industry with key roles in compliance, production, recruitment and supervision. Bill holds a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and Certificate III in Security Operations. He has worked as a sessional trainer with the University of Ballarat delivering TAFE courses. He feels his extensive experience working with people ‘across the board’ provides him with an understanding and knowledge of the challenges facing employers and job seekers alike. Bill prides himself in finding the right employee for the business and listens to Industry and their requirements.
Don Hanlon - Field Officer
Don has 35 years experience in the Building & Construction Industry, specifically bricklaying. He holds a Diploma of Project Management, and Certificate III in Home & Community Services. As a subcontract bricklayer working across the entire building industrysector Don has a sound knowledge of business requirements in employing an apprentice or trainee into a business, Don understands the qualities that you are looking for in an apprentice or trainee. Don also has a sound knowledge of local business issues, he understands the pressures in running your own business and is well equipped to assist you in finding the right apprentice or trainee for your business.
Marilyn Morley - Operations Manager Service Industries
Marilyn has extensive knowledge and experience in Vocational Educational and Training covering a broad cross section of industry including Business, Retail and Community Services. Marilyn has a Diploma of Education and an Advanced Certificate in Residential and Community Services. Having worked extensively in the community sector Marilyn has the skills and knowledge to assist business owners to assess their workforce and skill needs and prepare an action plan to address those needs.
As Services Manager, Marilyn leads a team of highly qualified Trainers and Field Officers who will assist clients in identifying and implementing effective employment and training strategies that are adaptive and responsive to the individual needs of the business.
Michael Marshall - Field Officer
Michael has an extensive knowledge of the services industry, including seven years as a Retail Manager. Through these years Michael has managed to build many relationships in the Services industry and is always keen and eager to build new relationships with local businesses. Michael holds a Diploma of Hospitality Management, various Retail qualifications and is in the process of completing his Diploma of Human Resource Management and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Michael has the experience, knowledge and skills required to place the right trainee in the right business.
John Gay – Business Development Manager Western Region
John started work forty years ago as an apprentice bricklayer and then went on to operate his own successful bricklaying business with his wife for many years before going to TAFE to teach bricklaying for six years. He holds a certificate IV in Workplace Learning has a Graduate Diploma in vocational education as well as a Diploma of Management.
John has been employed at BGT for the past eleven years. He has spent time as a Field Officer, Manager of Operations and now is the Business Development Manager for the Western Region of Melbourne. John has spent his entire working life being involved with apprentices and trainees by being an apprentice himself, employing and training apprentices in his business, educating them at TAFE and now working very closely with them at BGT. John's many years of experience with dealing with apprentices and his passion for getting young people into employment holds him in good stead to be able to give advice to young people wanting to carry out an apprenticeship and to employers who maybe thinking of taking on an apprentice.
Amy Weavell - Field Officer Western Region
Amy has extensive recruitment experience working in this industry for five years. She has been flying the skies as a flight attendant for Virgin Blue for the past twelve months as well as working in the child care industry. Amy completed a certificate II in sport and recreation while at school, and also has a degree in sports administration. She has worked in administration roles for many years within a number of small and large sporting organisations and government departments. Amy has a passion for working with youth and helping them start their career in their chosen fields.
