BGT is a not for profit community based company established in 1986 to develop and grow the Group Training model in the Ballarat region. Over that time approximately 3500 apprentices and trainees have completed their qualifications with BGT.

The concept of group training arose about 20 years ago.  It provides a very effective mechanism to support young apprentices and trainees through their training and provides an opportunity to begin their career in their chosen industry. The group training model also provides an option for candidates to rotate to another employer in times of hardship and distress, when their apprenticeship is suspended due to lack of work, out of trade, out of work or in positions of difficulty with an employer. BGT facilitates the relationship between the employer and apprentice with a field officer who individually mentors and supports both the employer and apprentice  throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship.

Initially, the concept was designed to service trades such as building, manufacturing and electrical firms. These days however, trainees and apprentices are in demand in a wide variety of industries, such as retail, agribusiness, aged care and hospitality, with trainees and apprentices starting at one year and moving through to the more traditional four-year term.

BGT is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that provides a wide range of training and assessment services and has a direct link to local business and industry.

Our trainers and assessors are fully qualified and have industry experience in their fields of expertise, at the same time delivering quality training, based on sound knowledge and a personalised approach.

BGT has industry specific training centers in Manufacturing and Retail and also provides services in Business, Hospitality, Community Services, Transport & Logistics, Aged Care and Assessment.

BGT Training facilities include a fully equipped computer training room available for public use on request, training rooms and equipment hire at competitive rates. Catering is also available upon request.

BGT is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by dedicated staff.
