Youth Services Eligibility

Who is eligible for support?

To participate in Youth Connections, a young person must be identified as being at risk of not attaining Year 12 or equivalent and at risk of not making a succesful transition through school and from school to further education, training and employment.

To be eligible to participate in Youth Connections, young people must be aged between 13 and 19 who are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or on a humanitarian visa who are:

  • Struggling at school
  • Thinking about leaving school but not sure what to do
  • Not attending school
  • Finding it hard to make the move from school to further education, training or employment

Who is not eligible for support?

Young people who are not eligible for Youth Connections would include those who:

  • Do not have significant barriers to successful participation in education or traning
  • Have indicated they intend to leave school before completing Year 12 to take up an employment opportunity and are likely to make a successful transition
  • Only need minor assistance in areas such as career advice, resume writing or interview skills and do not have personal factors or barriers that difine them as 'at risk'
  • Have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Are in full time employment at the time of assessment
  • Are undertaking tertiary studies
